DISCOVER

“You cannot teach a man anything; you can only help him discover it in himself.” – Galileo

The focus of this Information Literacy video is Discovery. Not just the word, but the process you go through to find, assess and use information.

Define – Who, what, when, where, why and how?
Inquire – Look beyond traditional sources
Search – Go beyond Google, try meta-search engines such as Dogpile
Collect
Organise
Verify – Check the author, publisher, contact info, last modified, web address
Express – Share what you have learned
Reflect – How would you have done it differently?

This video made a lot of sense to me. It is an excellent way to work out how to find and use information and to determine the authority and accuracy of it.

I consider myself to be fairly information literate, but there is always more to learn! There are a lot of people out there in the nameless, faceless web trying to fool you...
