The Big Six

This is my BIG SIX as seen on Slideshare.....

The Big Six from emilymjardine

I found the big six steps for information problam solving to be a very simple way to evaluate and use information.

Curling.....

What the Heck Is Curling? from Mashable

I chose this Infographic because a couple of times during the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games I found myself mesmerised by this slightly ridiculous "sport". It's good to know the finer points of things!

Caterpillar Picture

Flickr Upload

This is the picture I uploaded to Flickr. It is a caterpillar I found in Mount Field Tasmania and thought it was so strange with its little black crown that I decided to get up close and personal with it!

DISCOVER

“You cannot teach a man anything; you can only help him discover it in himself.” – Galileo

The focus of this Information Literacy video is Discovery. Not just the word, but the process you go through to find, assess and use information.

Define – Who, what, when, where, why and how?
Inquire – Look beyond traditional sources
Search – Go beyond Google, try meta-search engines such as Dogpile
Collect
Organise
Verify – Check the author, publisher, contact info, last modified, web address
Express – Share what you have learned
Reflect – How would you have done it differently?

This video made a lot of sense to me. It is an excellent way to work out how to find and use information and to determine the authority and accuracy of it.

I consider myself to be fairly information literate, but there is always more to learn! There are a lot of people out there in the nameless, faceless web trying to fool you...

Explaining the Name.....

I have taken the name of my blog from a quote I read in a book called The Fault in our Stars by John Green:

"My thoughts are stars I cannot fathom into constellations" - Augustus Waters, The Fault in our Stars

The book is a teenage romance novel and is being turned into a film to be released this year. The story is about a teenage girl (Hazel) with terminal lung cancer who falls in love with a boy (Augustus) who she met through a cancer support group. The quote comes from the second last page of the book where Augustus writes to the Hazels favourite author to ask for help to write her eulogy and he just can't put his thoughts about her into words.

Such beautiful words that so aptly describe how minds work at times.
